ASIA Sumas Grads Showcase Passion and Purpose Through Capstone Projects

May 26, 2026

At ASIA Sumas, graduation is more than a milestone. It is an opportunity for students to reflect on who they are, where they are headed and what matters most to them.

This year, all 35 graduating students completed Capstone projects, a graduation requirement designed to connect learning with future goals. Among them, 17 students also pursued the District Authority Award, often referred to by students as their “Dogwood”, a 100-hour passion project that can lead to scholarship opportunities.

From music and agriculture to mental health and cultural identity, student projects reflected the many passions shaping ASIA Sumas graduates.

Dexter transformed his love of film scores into the Rainbow Jazz Ensemble, a student-led music project that deepened his goal of becoming a music teacher. Peyton’s project centred on Earl, her 4H market steer, documenting the discipline, responsibility and care behind raising and presenting an animal. Winnie combined anatomy and personal experience to create a detailed human skeleton project that reflects her desire to pursue psychiatric nursing and support others through mental health challenges. Claire’s Métis textile project connected culture and creativity, helping shape her future in education while reinforcing the importance of belonging in classrooms.

Together, these projects demonstrate what makes ASIA Sumas unique. Through Capstone and District Authority Award opportunities, students are encouraged to explore their passions, discover more about themselves and build meaningful connections between education and their futures.

At ASIA Sumas, graduation is not only about completing school. It is about celebrating growth, purpose and the pathways students are creating for themselves.
